Correction of Capsular Contracture

Capsular Contracture can be due to many different things but, the common denominator is excessively tight scar tissue around the implant producing firmness, malposition and sometimes pain. Although the causes can be multiple, the solution usually requires removal of all or most of the capsule (scar tissue), placement of a new implant, and sometimes a pocket change and addition of Acellular Dermal Tissue Matrix (e.g. Alloderm or Strattice).
